Fueling My Fire

Updated: Feb 29

How long can a girl live without loving herself? For me it was 31 years. I couldn't tell you exactly when, it's a process, but I've been learning how to love myself more and more everyday since my first shoot.

My name is Kay. Born and raised in Ashtabula, Ohio and currently residing in Glendale. Arizona. About a year ago, I was scrolling through Facebook and saw a very close friend of mine (Elitra) had posted a new picture. It wasn't just a selfie or a glamour shot it was ART! I was definitely intrigued yet wasn't sure it was for me. I've struggled with my weight since grade school. Shortly after I moved to Arizona my son was born. Not too long after that I became a single mother and almost lost everything. I was tired, I was covered in stretch marks, the weight that I did lose after my pregnancy was solely stress.

Elitra invited me to join the VIP Group and I noticed how loving and supportive everyone was so decided to start browsing the website. I realized that all of these women are GORGEOUS - and they look like me?! Distance was briefly a factor but after searching other local photographers I couldn't find anyone that could match the quality and emotion Erika brings out in her photography.

That's it! I'm booking the shoot and the flight! Erika was very warm and welcoming from beginning to end. A lot of people don't know this but I have a genetic immune deficiency that causes my joints and muscles to tense up. There was a few times where I struggled to get into some of the floor poses and Erika sat with me and helped me work through it and I didn't feel weird or embarrassed at all which I was a bit worried about before coming in.

The entire shoot was nothing but pampering and accommodating. It made me feel good that Erika w

as very open and excited to hear my ideas and helping me make them come to life. I had requested a rope artist at my first shoot and the gentleman who worked with us was very respectful and everyone made sure I was comfortable at all times. It was a long day of shooting but seeing a few sneak previews throughout the shoot kept me alive! When I finally (two days later lol) got to see my images I was head over heels!

My album and my wall art are absolutely beautiful and I love that I have those to look back at - because that's the only way I'm looking back now.

Who knew I was so beautiful? Not me. I took a chance on myself and I won. I found the beautiful woman I've always wanted to be and I love her. If you would've asked me a year ago which magazine I'm on the cover of I'd think you were crazy. Now? I'm published - four covers and counting. If you're reading this you're probably in a similar boat that I was in and you're not sure if this is for you but it is. I hope this gives you the strength and courage to book the shoot. Stop what you're doing and reach out. It's time to love yourself.

-Kay
